Sandpoint – At its July 20, 2016 Council meeting, the Sandpoint City Council unanimously approved a revised fee schedule for its existing City fees.
The revised fee schedule includes a 1.4% inflationary increase for moorage fees tied to the Consumer Price Index. The revised fees take effect October 1, 2016.
This also included a 50% reduction of Water hook-up (NUFF) fees which took effect July 21, 2016. Under the previous rate structure, the water hook-up fee to a typical single family home was $6,723.29. This is reduced to $3,389.27 under the new rate structure.
Sewer hook-up (NUFF) fees were also reduced by 35% effective July 21st. Under the previous rate structure, the sewer hook-up fee to a typical single family home was $6,795.36. This is reduced to $4,413.42 under the rate structure.
In 2017, the City will commission a comprehensive review of all of its water and sewer rates as part of its planning efforts for a potential new wastewater treatment plant in order to meet the new discharge requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“We are pleased to announce this reduction at a time when we are seeing an economic turnaround in our local economy. We feel that this rate reduction will have a positive effect on this trend as many developers and businesses are expanding and considering new projects. It’s time for our fee structure to be updated and this reduction provides a special window of opportunity for development in the meantime,” said Mayor Shelby Rognstad.
