  • In May, 2015, Sandpoint was among four communities recognized by the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center. Sandpoint is now designated a Silver Level Walk Friendly Community.

  • “Walk Friendly Communities” is a national recognition program aimed at honoring communities for their commitment to pedestrian safety.

  • The Walk Friendly Community designation is given to applicant communities that have demonstrated a commitment to improving and sustaining walk-ability and pedestrian safety through comprehensive programs, plans, policies, and ordinances.

  • Sandpoint policies and ordinances have consistently reinforced walking as a safe and pleasant experience, as well as a preferred method of experiencing the city, for 15 or more years, from entertainment events, work, and the Farmers’ Market to everyday sharing between neighbors, walking is part of a healthy, growing community for citizens of all ages.

  • As of 2015, 50 communities in the U.S. had been designated as Walk Friendly Communities.
