The Street Division is part of the Public Works Department and has five full time employees and is responsible for maintaining approximately 55 miles of roadway in the transportation system in Sandpoint including the storm water system, bridge maintenance, signs and markings, street lights, street cleaning, ice and snow removal, leaf-branch and City wide cleanup.
Schweitzer Cutoff Bridge over Sand Creek - Weight Restrictions
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has notified the cities of Sandpoint & Ponderay and the Independent Highway District that the bridge shall have an axle limit of 6.3 tons. A structural evaluation conducted by ITD shows the bridge is not adequate to carry typical maximum legal loads and must be posted for specific weight limits. The Idaho Transportation Department conducts bridge inspections of all public road bridges to determine their structural capabilities. The most recent bridge inspection report gives the Sand Creek Bridge a sufficiency rating of 4 and a structurally deficient rating. Sufficiency ratings range from 0 (poor) to 100 (excellent). Two years ago the sufficiency rating was 76.5.
